Glendinning’s manufacture a full range of asphalt products from our plants at our Linhay (Ashburton) and Pigsdon (Bude) quarries. These include fully quality assured products from Asphalt Concrete Base, Binder and Surface courses to Hot Rolled Asphalts, Stone Mastic Asphalt surface courses and our own proprietary products for specialised uses. We are able to manufacture all mixes in both limestone and hardstone aggregates as well as an element of recycled planings, together with a variety of bitumen grades. These products are supported by our own experienced technical team with in house laboratory facilities ensuring you get the best quality asphalt every time.
Our asphalt plants are also supported by our own fleet of vehicle transport to include 10 tonne, 16 tonne 20 tonne and even 29 tonne carrying capacity. It should also be noted that both Linhay and Pigsdon asphalt plants also have capability for collected asphalt.
The modern asphalt plant facility at Ashburton also has the capability and necessary permissions to operate 24x7 enabling us to supply works at your convenience.
Product development is key to reducing our carbon footprint and in recent years we have been involved with trialling waste plastic as a replacement for bitumen as well as the use of additives to enable the manufacture of asphalt at lower temperatures.
Waste asphalt from manufacturing or site, together with material planed from road surfaces and brought to the quarry, is recycled through a crushing and screening process under a WRAP protocol to produce a partial substitute for aggregate and bitumen during the asphalt mixing process.
Up to 10% of the asphalt mix is replaced with the Recycled Asphalt Planings (RAP), thus saving on virgin aggregate and reducing the amount of bitumen required.
Warm mix asphalt is a proven technology giving a more sustainable paving solution that provides an equivalent to standard hot mix asphalt but is manufactured and laid at lower temperatures.
Benefits of using Warm Asphalt:
Glendinning are able to manufacture all their asphalt products at both plants with this technology, thus giving customers the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint
Glenflex is a proprietary material developed to improve durability and crack resistance in overlays when used on highway surfacing. It has also been shown to be effective at realising and maintaining high levels of surface friction.
It was first used in 2014 in trial areas and is now specified by Devon CC and widely used across the highway network in Devon.
Glenflex was further developed in 2020 and gained approval for both 10 and 14mm versions to be laid as a single course, thus eliminating the need for a binder course, increasing the efficiency of the surfacing work.
